New England Range Off The Beaten Path: 33 reviews and 64 photos

  A clear and present danger
by iandsmith

I was driving along on a gorgeous day, typical of what you'd expect in Oz, navigating the back road between Armidale and Inverell when I reached Bundarra, a half way point on the journey. Now, Bundarra is not a place where very much happens. A quiet hamlet where three cars on the main street is a traffic jam. So I was understandably surprised when, not only were there lots of cars, but the police as well.
I had no idea what was going on but I took a photo anyway. Little did I know at the time that it was one of worst tragedies that can befall a town of this size.
A young couple in the blush of their youth, looking forward to a joyous life together, out drinking. You've probably already guessed the rest. Sadly, you're right. Despite advice from well meaning friends they opted to drive home from Inverell and the car failed to negotiate a bend.
It was a funeral I had witnessed. I hope I never see another one in a town like Bundarra.
