"Gripsholm Castle" Top 5 Page for this destination Sweden Things to Do Tip by Sjalen
Sweden Things to Do: 422 reviews and 839 photos
One of the biggest, and in my opinion the nicest, castles in Sweden. The cheerful red castle is full of both history (building started in the 14th century), art (an amazing theatre) and all the secret passageways you associate with castles. It also houses the National Portrait Gallery. The nicest way to get here is by steam ship from Stockholm City Hall. A trip which takes 3 hours through Lake Mälaren. You can read much more about it on my Mariefred page.
Address: Gripsholm, Mariefred
Directions: South west of Stockholm, along the shores of Lake Mälaren.
