  Tea tree
by mansionion

A must visit in Cameron Highlands is one of its tea plantations. Tea planting is the main economic activity here with acres upon acres of land dedicated to its cultivation. There are several tea plantations scattered all around Cameron Highlands with Boh Tea Plantations alone has a total 8,000 acres of tea plantations in Sg Palas, Farlie, Bukit Cheeding and Ringlet. Bharat Tea Estate in Riglet also worth a visit for its view.

Most of the tea trees in the tea plantations here are the same that were planted during the early beginning of tea plantations here since the productive life of tea trees span over almost 100 years. In Cameron Highlands, tea leaves - about the size of an adult palm - are plucked by hand as well as using a specialised scissors-like equipment. Thus, tea trees here are trimmed to the height of 1-1.5m to enable the top layer of the tree to be pruned straight into a sack using the said equipmenet.

Once collected, the tea leaves are brought to a nearby factory to be processed.

Address: Scattered all over Cameron Highlands.
Directions: Sg Palas tea plantations - north of Brinchang, on a turn-off from the road to Gunung Brinchang.

Bharat Tea Estate - in between Ringlet and Tanah Rata just off the main road.
