Before the Pyramid, the entrance to the Galleries was through one of the wings of the Palais, through a very confusing and mediocre series of salons. No one can now say that they couldn't find the front door to the museum!
At first, critics scoffed at Pei's conceit. A glass pyramid, vraiment? Some architectural critics claimed that it was a post-modern gesture intended to "insult" the baroque glory of the Louvre. Nowadays, the Pyramid is almost universally admired. Great design is timeless, n'est ce pas?
