Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabana, Havana: 13 reviews and 23 photos
Again, there is a short name for it - La Cabana. Built in 1774, the fortress is the largest in the Americas, covering 10 hectares. It is so huge that the Spanish king jokingly said that it must be visible from Spain with a telescope! The stone structure is so massive that nobody dared to attack it in the past couple centuries.
Every night at 8:30pm, soldiers in old Spanish uniforms fire a cannon, just like they did in the old days to signal the closing of the city gates.
Address: Habana del Este
Directions: It can be reached by taxi, or by the harbour ferry to Casablanca. Walk pass the Christ statue and a gate. You'll then be walking in the moat of La Cabana.
