Unirii is one of the widest and the most megalomanic boulevards in Europe. It was built during the communist regime as a part of the "New Look" that was designd to Bucharests center by Ceausescu.... whole neighborhood (including some historical monuments) were destroyed so that the project will be built.
Today the street is a bitt disappointing.... the fountains in the center of the road are not working well for years now, Unirii square became a transportation crossroads with big crowd that makes huge mass and the shops could not attract exclusive fashion dealers as in Calea Victoriei... instead there are many banks, offices and massive apartments that make the street look like a ghost zone....
