On the left is a detail of one of the portal sculptures -- talk about the weight of the world! On the right is a good view of the back of the cathedral showing the ambulatory windows.
One of my favorite places to sit in Paris is in the small park behind the cathedral.
The cornerstone was laid in 1163, but the western facade with the famous rose window wasn't done until 1225. And the whole thing wasn't completed until around 1300 -- when they started on renovations!!!
