  The injured elephant
by grets

On the way to the launch site for the cruise, we see some warthogs by the side of the road. Jojo warned us to be careful with wild animals at night, but surely it can't be that bad?

Waiting for us down by the jetty is a small group of traditionally clad singers and dancers with a jungle drum and a strange musical string instrument. Again there are not many tourists about, only six others, on a boat for at least 25 people with a staff of five, it can't pay.

All the drinks are included, as are some little hot snacks. Mary-Lou recommended Mainstay, the locally produced rum, so I have to try one (or four) of those. It is very good. I don't actually drink all four, I spill one of them.

The captain is very informative, telling us all about the river and the animals we see, plus some folklore and history.

On the banks we see a little baby crocodile and in the reeds is a lone elephant, thought to be injured. There are aslo hippo, impala and lots of pretty birds. We hear the roar of a lion, but can't see it.

One of the musicians came on board with us, acting as scout on the front of the boat as well as playing for us.

It is a very relaxing and enjoyable few hours, wathcing the sun go down over such a beautiful setting, complete with wild animals as well as food and drink supplied. What more could you want?
