Checkpoint Charlie divided the city between American-Allied Berlin and Soviet Berlin. The museum nearby charts the years of occupation and the people who lived in the city, including escape attempts and success stories. Soldier of the month was a popular pastime, the American soldier facing East Berlin and the Russian soldier into West Berlin on pictureboards. The last ever winners still stand to this day.
