Charlie's Huts: "Chaweng Beach's Best Value Bungalows" Southern Thailand Hotel Tip by n_a_drescher

Southern Thailand Hotels: 60 reviews and 79 photos

Charlie's huts have quaint thatched roofs and all-wood construction, with large beds and clean floors and a little patio-deck to sit on.

This resort is right on Chaweng Beach and goes all the way back to the main strip of Chaweng, giving you easy access to both the beach and the stores and bars. Best of all, Charlie's Huts have a wide variety of bungalows to choose from, depending on your budget. If you want upscale, you can get a good beachfront bungalow with queen sized bed, air con, and hot water for 1,500 baht ($50 CAD) a night, or you could get a twin sized bed and no air con or hot water for 500 baht ($17 CAD), or you could get a small single with a fan and a mosquito net for 300 baht ($10 CAD). If you don't even want a shower in your hut, you're looking at 250 baht ($8 CAD)

It's a 15 minute taxi ride from the airport, and the service is good, and the layout of the place is very tropical, with exotic flowers, plants, and palm trees all over the place.

Unique Qualities: The huts were very clean, even the small cheap ones. Although I slept under a mosquito net, I didn't see a single insect inside my hut (unlike many of the other bungalow operations).

Also, it was so conveniently located that I could walk five minutes to the store on the road, pick up some drinks, and walk five minutes in the other direction and lay on the tropical beach.

As I was at the end of my vacation, I was getting scroogy with my baht, and this place had the perfect mix of luxury and value.

Address: On Chaweng Road, walk down to the road past the McDonald's, past a few resorts, and you will see the entrance way tucked up a small driveway.
Price Comparison: less expensive than average
Price: less than US$20
