"Warm and welcoming" Park Hyatt Stanhope Tip by pedersdottir

Park Hyatt Stanhope, New York City: 2 reviews and 0 photos

The Stanhope describes itself as a 'boutique hotel'. I would call it cozy - almost homelike - built to a comfortable scale.

From the modest lobby, French doors lead to the dining room and picture windows facing 5th Avenue towards the Metropolitan Museum. White table linens and fresh flowers set the stage for a delicious light lunch. In the evening, the room is transformed into a supper club with live piano or a vocalist. Service is unhurried. It's a nice place to meet a friend for a long chat.

How many hotels still have a library? The Stanhope does. A wood-panelled room with classic Queen Anne furnishings and real bookshelves makes for a family gathering spot - or a cozy corner for a late-night drink from the adjacent bar.

Bedrooms are spacious, quiet and comfortable. Mine overlooked a courtyard garden and faced west, giving a good view of the Chrysler Building and its art deco tower.

Unique Qualities: Located on 5th Avenue, directly across from the Met and Central Park, the Stanhope is perfect for a weekend of museum visits. The Whitney and the Guggenheim are within easy walking distance.

Price-conscious diners will be happy to know that deli's and coffee shops are only steps away, around the corner on Madison Ave.
