  Angkor Wat
by Rodan44

The temple of Angkor Wat is easily the most impressive monument in Cambodia, if not all of Southeast Asia. It is without question a masterpiece of architectural art and one of the great treasures of the world. It is stunning both for its massive size as well as for the intricate details of its relief carvings.

Angkor Wat was built in the 12th century by Suryavarman II, then king of the vast Khmer empire, and was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu.

The best times to visit Angkor Wat is early in the morning, when the crowds and heat are low, and again at sunset, when the light on the temple front is best.

Directions: 8 km outside of Siem Reap
