Water Garden on the 1997 tour
by grandmaR

Fountain Places is actually a skyscraper designed by I.M. Pei and built in 1986. (I.M. Pei and Partners also designed One Dallas Center, Energy Plaza, and the Dallas City Hall.)

The Fountain Place building was supposed to be a three building complex which was to include a hotel and a water park with fountains (hence the name). The second building and the hotel were not built, but the fountains were completed.

When I took the city tour in 1997, we were allowed to get out and walk around at the bottom of the water cascade. The sky was overcast and it was quite dark under the grove of bald cypress trees below street level..

Since this is outdoors, it can be viewed without cost. I tried to find it again on my visit to Dallas this year (2004), but I couldn't remember exactly where it was or what it was called. I had to look it up afterwards.
