For an interesting drive off the beaten path, drive through Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument thru Cottonwood Canyon to get to Bryce Canyon National Park. Go west from Page, AZ, on Hwy 89, 4 miles west of Church Wells. Turn right onto Cottonwood Canyon road. The southernmost part of the road is a washboard, but it evens out soon and there is terrific desert canyon scenery along the way. Grosvenor Arch is about 3/4 of the way along the road and is worth a stop to look. The "Indian Country" map available from AAA has this dirt road clearly marked. Less miles but the same amount of time as compared to taking Hwy 89 all the way around to get to Bryce Canyon.
