"Funerary towers" Palmyra Things to Do Tip by global_explorer

Palmyra Things to Do: 132 reviews and 377 photos

Along a dry and barren valley south of Tadmor itself, several funeraltowers rise toward the sky. Some of the finest are closed, to enter you need to pay a guide from Palmyra, and despite short distance, often transport as guides are reluctant to walk. Other towers are not closed and you can make more or less hazardious climbs inside those ols constructions. Some places skeletal parts are still in place. Getting the possibility to climb 2000 years old steps inside a brickbuilding is in itself mind boggling. At those open towers i found a selfestablished guide in the form of a young boy, he sticked to me until he had made sure i had done all the necesary climbs-and until he had got his pounds. At first i didn't want him, but without him i would have lost some interesting points.
