One of the most "touristy" places in Iceland and just outside Reykjavik. It is a must while you are in Iceland or stopping through Reykjavik. Most of the tour companies or bus services from the Keflavik Airport can shuttle you out there for a minimal fee before you go into Reykjavik to check into your hotel. It is a man made lagoon due to the geothermal power plant nearby. As the steam is condensed back into water from bore holes it is pumped into the lagoon. The color is blue because of the cyanobacteria in the water and the white silica on the bottom. The complex offers towels, bathing suits and robes to rent. There are also massages available from 10-50minutes all in the water. The water is hottest near the vents and is around 37-39C. There is also a restaurant with quite overpriced food. Bus services leave every hour so you can stay as long as you like. The best is to use Thinvellaeid which will get you your bus return ticket and entrance fee in one price. It is about 1200IKr and open from 10am-8pm.

Directions: Between Keflavik and Grindavik. There are signs off the highway 41 towards Keflavik from Reykjavik.
