  The Nave of the abbey
by Mique

The abbey of La Sauve -Majeure used to be one of the biggest centres of religion in this area. It was founded in 1079 and became fast a huge centre of power. This you can still easily see. Even though the abbey is in ruins, it is still a huge building and still very impressive.

It used to be on one of the 4 routes that led from France to Santiago de Compostella. De route basically is still there but it has become a rather forgotten one.

If you have no fear of heights (and try if you do) climb the stairs to the top of the tower. After all these centuries this is still possible to do though it isn't the easiest of climbs because of the old stairs.

There is also a small museum on the premises where the more valuable pieces of the abbey are kept.
