Having had a glimpse of the coastal areas of Equator, it was time to get in touch with the Andes, the vertebral column of the Equator (of the whole of South America, actually) . This is probably the area whose landscapes first come to your mind when you think of Equator.

For me, the Andes were almost a totally new world: so different to the coast in landscape, climate, people and paysanage that I could not believe we had only travelled a few hundreds of kilometers.

We started our route in the Northern Province of Imbabura, named after a majestic volcano, one of the many you can see along the Equatorial Andes. This one is holy land for the natives, who consider it as their father, the neighbouring Cotocachi being the mother.
