"The Pieta" Prague Local Custom Tip by zrim
Prague Local Customs: 349 reviews and 432 photos
This bronze sculpture commemorates the opening of Mozart's Don Giovanni in Prague on October 29, 1787. Don Giovanni was well received in Prague--not so in Vienna.
The sculptor (or is it sculptress?) of the haunting work is Anna Chromy. She has a pretty interesting website at: www.annachromy.com. For example, I found out that Ms. Chromy moved from Prague to Paris in 1970 and became a protege of the famous Salvidor Dali.
The sculpture, Pieta, is one of a group of eight that portrays the major characters of Don Giovanni and it is considered Chromy's most important work to date.
