At 16:45 there is a mad rush to get to the feeding platform before night fall. The path is hard going, first down to the river, then up again the other side. Up, up and up. So many steps. On the way we scramble through the undergrowth to observe several sifaka – the guide is very pleased with this sighting as he doesn’t normally find sifakas here. The normal climbing time to the look-out is one hour; we rush there in 20 minutes. No wonder I’m out of breath! The dash is worth it though, for the nocturnal animals that come to feed at this point. Two civets creep silently out of the bushes and shuffle quickly at my feet. They are so close I almost step on them
