View of English Harbour from Shirley Heights

Near to Nelson's Dockyard is Shirley Heights, which provides tremendous views of Nelson's Dockyard and English Harbour (oh, and Eric Clapton's house!) On Sundays, this is the location of some of the best entertainment on the island, with steel bands, reggae and barbecues. There are remains of English army fortifications at Shirley Heights, which have yet to be fully explored by historians and archaeologists. Keep your eyes peeled and you may find something interesting - we found the remains of a clay tobacco pipe just lying on the ground!

Between Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights is the Dow Hill Interpretation Centre, which includes an interesting audio-visual presentation of the island's history.

Address: South coast of the island
