"The weather" Genoa Warnings Or Dangers Tip by craic

My first couple of days in Genoa I was thinking - I can handle this Italian summer.
It was cool and overcast. Quite pleasant.
Then something happened.
It got stinking hot. But not just hot, wringing wet. One minute after a shower, one was not nice to be near. Everyone was glowing with sweat. Which makes the double cheek kiss Italians do a bit of a trial. And we were all a bit cranky.
Then, while I was waiting for the funicular a young man said - It's the shirocco.
(That's how he pronounced sirocco. Apparently in Italian it is spelled scirocco.)
I mentioned this to Paolo and Chiara and they told me there is a Genovese word - macaia - for this kind of weather.
I was intrigued to find out what it was like to be in sirocco weather. (Not nice at all.)
And to take a couple of days to find out that that is what it was.
