Moorish Windows in the National Palace
by Bwana_Brown

After my wife and I had finished our lunch, we decided that it was time to check out the Palacio Nacional de Sintra - which happened to be only a few minutes away.

The front of the Palace is taken up by a very large open terrace with wide steps leading up into the main entrance. Off to the right, is a wing that was added to the structure in the early 1500s by King Manuel I, using up some of his many inflowing riches from all over the world. This part of the palace features 'ajimece' windows, built in the Moorish style with fancy filigree and slender central columns. The famous kitchen is just behind and to the left of these windows.

Here, in front of these windows, I am enjoying the view over the railing down into Sintra town as seen in the previous Tip.
