South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park: 3 reviews and 3 photos
The South Rim, in and of itself, is a tourist trap. It is said that the average visitor spends only 8 minutes actually looking at the grand Canyon and that the rest of the time is spent wandering around Grand Canyon Village. There are exhibits and observation points that are worth seeing, but making this the entire Grand Canyon experience would be missing out on the place.
Unique Suggestions: Hike below the Rim, at least a little ways. Take Bright Angel Trail down to Mile and a Half Resthouse, at least, or hike a mile or so down the South Kaibab Trail to get a glimpse of the Canyon. Better yet, leave the South Rim and head up to the North Rim.
Fun Alternatives: Visit the North Rim instead. Or, if you have only one day, take a flighseeing tour over the Grand Canyon. At least you'll get to see it.
