To get a real good taste of the slickrock landscape of the south coast of Norway, and some bathing beaches as well, take bus No XXX from Oslo bus terminal Galleriet to Tonsberg and Tjome. By train you come as far as Tonsberg. It is some ways out, but perhaps worth it if you are short on time and want to see this benign low fjord landscape with lots of slickrock and good picnic spots southwest of Oslo. In good weather and during long and light summer evenings this is a really nice experience.

You basically take the bus out to Tonsberg and beyond to Tjome. There is a frequent bus service to these places and to get around out on the islands check the local tourist offices and web pages for tips. Check the time table for return buses. Or, why not stay overnight? Hvasser Motell, 3148 Hvasser, has huts for rent 200 meters from the sea, and excellent fishing, hiking and bathing possibilities in the immediate vicinity. Boats for rent. The place has a family profile. Check www.hvassermotell.no Tel/fax 33393001.
Or try Verdens Ende Motell & Camping, huts with 2-6 beds, priced at NOK 250-850 per 24 hrs. Tel +47 33391010. www.verdensende.no
You can also make your way down the coast here by foot, bike, train or car. The fjord system toward Sandefjord/Larvik is full of little nice surprises.
Photo of Tjome scenery is in progress....

Directions: The island of Tjome (Tjøme) south of Tonsberg (Tønsberg).
