About two centuries after the eruption of Mount Hverfjäll a great eruption occurred in a 12 kilometre long fissure south of the mountain. The resulting lava field, has been given the name Yngra-Laxárhraün ("Younger Laxár-hraün"). The elder Laxárhraün lava field under it, is about 3,800 years old. A great row of craters, Lúdentabörgir, was formed on the fissure.
