"Handmade textiles" Local Crafts Tip by bpwillet
Local Crafts, Crete Island: 7 reviews and 3 photos
Probably the best place to buy traditionally woven Cretan rugs and carpets. Mihalis Manousakis and his family use a loom that is over 400 years old and he does very traditional styles and designs. It is tucked back on the streets of historic Hania and looks like it has been there for years. The tea or beverages he offers are a great way to sit or stroll around the shop.
What to buy: The traditional pieces he sells are really amazing. The best thing is to look around the folded and hanging carpets and find one you like. If not, he will always be willing to do a custom design and can send them to you.
What to pay: Carpets can go as low as 20Euro for a small one to a couple of hundred for a large (8x10) one.
