How beautiful is this place???
About one hour drive from Te Anau, through pristine forests, over beautiful creeks and rivers, on roads that cut their way through snow capped mountains and into a tunnel through a mountain that emerges into a huge valley you will enter the car park of the Milford Sound.
In the car park you will find a kiosk that also includes a booking office for the multitude of crusies that leave from the jetty that is situated only 500m from the kiosk.
The cruise set off and within 200 metres we passed under the huge Bowen waterfall before cruising into the shadows of Mitre Peak. Passing through the huge steep walled sound we passed into Anita bay and out into the ocean. Returning back via Sterling falls and and outcrop of rocks covered with fur seals we called into the underwater observatory before returning to the dock. A magnificent 3 hour cruise and an even better day out!
Make sure you head out early, enjoy the drive and photo opportunities, do a lunchtime cruise, look around the area on foot before driving back to Te Anau for dinner!

TAKE A WARM JACKET.
