  Shoes Off
by ant1606

Traditional Korean indoors such as private homes, restaurants and many hotel rooms require to take off your shoes when entering. You may face a variety of uncomfortable experiences depending upon the situation. Personally I don't mind such a rule, which is meant to keep a certain space free from dirt. During the cold season the floor is heated.
In rare cases, I experienced shoes off custom also when visiting companies on business trips.
Tip 1: Private home
Respect the local custom by leaving your shoes as soon as you get in.
Tip 2: Restaurant
Shoes off requested only in those restaurants where you'll sit on the floor, which are the majority. Accordingly to the restaurant level you may find your own shoes piled up with others, or stored in a shelf or nicely placed and prepared ready for you.
Tip 3: Bathroom and Toilet
Remind you are barefoot. For a number of reasons, floor is wet with splash in bathrooms. Convenience slippers are provided to avoid wet feet. Slippers for public use are generally provided in restaurant toilets.

General Tip: Stringless shoes are recommended as in a normal day you may be frequently requested to have them on an off. Most Korean people wear black shoes, therefore any different color may help finding yours among the mass. Socks recommended.
