There are a few boat tours you can take around Bangkok. I took a 2-hour trip along the Chao Praya River and the Grand Canal that stopped at the Thonburi Snake Farm and a small floating market. There were just two of us on the boat and the sights are impressive. You will pass dozens of temples as well as an interesting variety of run down shacks, nice apartment buildings, and extravagant mansions.

The trip was around US$20 per person for the two-hour trip, which seemed to me to be on the expensive side for Bangkok. I have since read that a fair price is 300-400 Baht (US$9-12) per hour per boat so I guess I paid close to the usual going rate.
