"Books" New York City Shopping Tip by Pomska

I love to shop books when I am travelling abroad. I can spend hours in great bookstores. Here are some of my favourites:

Mega-chain store Barnes & Noble (there are
many locations, but here are few: 4 Astor Pl., at Lafayette St.; 33 E. 17th St., between Broadway and Park Ave.; 1972 Broadway at 66th St. etc.). When you Visit the Broadway branch of Barnes & Noble, check the cafe in the upper floor.

Borders Book & Music is equally overwhelming when it comes to sheer merchandise volum. The stores are located in 5 World Trade Center, Northeast Building, Lower Manhattan; Park Ave., at 57th St.

Rizzoli avoids the sterile feel and florescent
lighting that comes with chaindom. The uptown branch is especially classy, with
marble entrance and chandeliers. The stores are located in 31 W. 57th St.,
between 5th and 6th Ave.; 454 W. Broadway, near Prince St.; World Financial
Center).

Tower Books is open daily until midnight. The
store is located in 383 Lafayette St., at E. 4th St.

Coliseum Books is a supermarket of books
and it has a huge selection of remainders, best-sellers and scholarly works. The
store is located in 1771 Broadway, at 57th St.

In Chelsea, a half-dozen or so bookstores on West 18th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues constitute the city's new Book Row.
Along busy stretches like Prince Street or 86th Street near the subway look for people hawking brand-spanking-new hardbacks for a few bucks.

What to buy: ummmh...apparently books, magazines and other paper stuff.
