"London is a nasty, drunken, foul cool" London Favorite Tip by Nicolai-The-Average

London General: 1,856 reviews and 2,437 photos

Favorite thing: London is full of drunks, bums, louts, hooligans, skanks, miscreants, hustlers, bullies, bland architecture, nasty food, and pollution. And this is why I dig this place so much.

Sure, your experiences there could very well be different from mine, full of top notch plays followed by a grandiose dinner, lovely walks through quaint Notting Hill, shopping in the high rent district, and so on. But if this is what you take away from here, then I think that you are missing the true essence of London.

Since it's inception to the modern day, it's been a class based society full of the world's most well bred people (whom you will rarely see because they are kept away from the population at large) and the crap people that breed with each other to create other crap people. These are the one's that you are certain to get a first hand look at if you spend enough time in the city.

They walk up to you at the pub or on the street, stinking of cheap lager. They'll give you a toothless smile, try to string together a friendly sentence that is bound to end up incoherent, and then beg you for either a pint, a smoke, or whatever change you've got.

Depending on what physical state they are in, they will either mutter something nasty under their breath as you quickly walk away, or they will make sure that you give them something before leaving using intimidation.

This, my friends is London, just as in the days of Oliver Twist. The city may appear to be modern and unslumlike and even refined, but the grungy spirit remains the same. God bless this authenticity that is so rare to find in today's globalized and sterilized world.

London is a city unlike any other and reminds you why it is that you travel, which is to experience something different from back home. How cool.
