Hrastovlje is a small mediteranian village situated in Karst Region. Above the village is a church with high tower like a shepherd above the sheep.

The Church Sv.Trojica, a medieval pearl of country architecture, was built in the Roman times following the model of Basilica Evfrazij in Porec in Croatia. The interior of the church is painted with biblical scenes. The most known fresco is called Mrtvaski ples - The Dance of Death. It was painted by Janez iz Kastva ( Johanes de Caustro) at the end of 15.century. It represents real naive bible (biblia pauperum) which showed people from that times the medieval vision of creation. It also shows 12 months of the year.

The church is small ,but rich with frescoes .You can get a lot of creative energy.

The French legend says :
When 3 living people met with three dead people, the dead said :

What are you now,we were before,
what are we now, you will be,
and not health neither pride nor power
have no value in time of death.
