If you are a history buff & relish a time when Royalty was more than a splash in the Tabloids, you'll love visiting the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. The Queen Mary is legendary & listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The ship is a combination of tourist site, hotel, dining spot, shopping area, & floating history.

The ship's maiden voyage took place in May of 1936, and it made 1,001 transatlantic crossings. During WWII, it served from 1940-1946 as a military ship & carried a total of 765,429 military personnel. Astoundingly, it carried up to 15,000 troops at one time (talk about over crowded!). Sadly, it also carried the wounded who were returning to the United States.

Today, it is anchored in & owned by the city of Long Beach, California (since 1967).

Allan & I really enjoyed the Behind the Scenes Tour that we took aboard the ship. It was educational, interesting, & enlightening.

The Hotel Queen Maryis splendid. The rooms are historic, charming, & Art Deco in design. The least expensive rooms are the inside staterooms, & the most expensive are the Royalty Suites. They range in price from $109-$500 per night. They also offer many package deals.

There is an On-Board Spa, a Fitness Room, Business center, Shopping, Dining, & an Art Gallery.

Places to Eat:

Sir Winston's is an elegant restaurant.
Chelsea features seafood specialties served to you as you enjoy gorgeous ocean views.
Promenade Cafe is an Observation bar & Art Deco lounge, & an outdoor patio is available.
Sunday Champagne Brunch which features over 50 entrees. It is served in the Grand Salon, the original ship's First Class dining area.

I had the best milk shake ever aboard this ship. Believe it or not, the chocolate shake was filled with 4 kinds of nuts!

It costs to park, but no more than $10.00 for twelve hours.

New this year is "The Queen Mary Ghost Tour" with a renowned paranormal researcher, Peter James.
