"Haggle or be ripped off" Morocco Tourist Trap Tip by sjvessey

Morocco Tourist Traps: 112 reviews and 69 photos

Buy something from the bazaar, and you will most likely pay four to five times what it's actually worth. This is especially true of the carpet merchants, who will try to flog you carpets for $1,000 a time. What a joke. Remember in this town haggling is the rule. If you don't have the stomach for it, don't buy anything.

Unique Suggestions: Try to show as little interest as possible what they are trying to sell you, even if you are interested. Buying anything in a culture that uses haggling as a price-finding mechanism takes a long time if you want to get a good price. Expect to have to argue with the shop owner for at least 10 minutes per item if you want to get a price anywhere near what your item is actually worth. Locals would probably get it knocked down to 25% of the original asking price. You'll be lucky to beat them down to 40%.
