There are two distinct parts in the large province of Cuenca: the southern part is occupied by a typical Stainy landscape of reddish plains, cereal fields and compact whitewashed villages. The Northwestern part is known as the Serranía de Cuenca: a series of sierras that belong to the Iberian Range where canyons and fantastic rock formations abound.

In the centre of it all, the Medieval city of Cuenca is one of the most interesting historical cities in Castille and in the whole of Spain.
