Kosancicev venac (Kosancic circle) is located on the plateau overlooking the Sava river in the Northwest part of old Belgrade. Here, a Serbian settlement took shape in medieval times and then gradually evolved into a community with a church and a cemetery. At the beginning of 19th century this part of the city became the core of the expansion of Belgrade. Today, several buildings and structures remain, preserving the spirit of old Belgrade. Tucked-away among newer residential blocks stands Kosančićev venac, with its cobblestone streets, backyards and houses that preserve the archaic atmosphere.
From Kosancicev Venac to the pier leads Large Stairs, the building of which financed Duke Mihailo, to help the people come down to the Sava River bank. In the central part of Trajkovic's house in 1895 was built the bust of Kosancic Ivan, the hero after whom the street was named.
