There were advertisements of so called DIENOS PATIEKALAS in front of many restaurants in the old town. It meant menu of the day or special of the day (menu del dia in Spain) - a meal sold at a discount price (even 50% off), usually different at each day. My recommendation for folks with low and... not so low budget :-)

Surely, it was not uniquely Vilnius local custom. As I noticed in Vilnius it never contained any alcoholic drink, usually just soup OR salad, main course and soft drink OR coffee OR tea. Ask your waiter for details.

Less touristy restaurants, I mean outside the old town didn't offer "dienos patiekalas". The two, I visited (but I didn't eat there), offered limited choice of Lithuanian food, rather international, fast-food like meals at prices of... "dienos patiekalas" in the city centre/downtown or lower. Well, both were full of young folks drinking beer, cigarette smoke (no air-condition) and both didn't accept any bank cards.
