Estonia Monument, Stockholm: 3 reviews and 3 photos
I was very moved by this monument to those who lost their lives in the Estonian ferry disaster in 1994. The monument is located in the Djurgarden, between the Vasa Museum and the Aquarium. It's a little hidden away, but very impressive. There's a short description in Swedish of when it happened and from where the victims came, and then etched into stone are the names of all those who lost their lives.
852 people lost their lives that night, when the M/S Estonia went down due to faulty contruction and a storm. There were only 137 survivors, making this Europe's worst ferry disatser in over 50 years.
There are some interesting websites about the disaster. Click here to go to one of the best of those websites.
