Intercity bus services tend to be comfortable and cheap in Brazil. While not as comfortable as sleeping in your own bed, they are more comfortable than coach airplane seats.

Frequently, this may be your best option for getting around in Brazil.

Let's take an example: a friend arrived in S?o Paulo to go to Londrina. Because this person insisted on flying to Londrina, they spent 5 hours waiting for a connecting flight, then an hour and a half in flight. Leaving S?o Paulo at the same time on the bus, I could have been at or near Londrina in five hours, and with the comfort of the bus seats I could probably have spent that five hours in productive sleep recovering from the uncomfortable flight down. I probably would not have had to wait long, since bus services between the two cities is quite frequent.

There are many many intercity companies, so the specifics depends on where you need to go and how much you are willing to pay. However, for the most comfortable service, expect to pay perhaps 1/3 that of a coach class air ticket.
