Chernivtsi Restaurants: 20 reviews and 39 photos

Since my first visit in 1996 the restaurant scene has changed incredibly and is still changing. There was only one really recommendable restaurant at that time (Maestro) but now you find lots of very nice and reasonably priced places all over the town and even along some main roads on the countryside far out of town.

Favorite Dish: Ask for real Ukrainian dishes. Sometimes it is difficult to determine from the menu which food you really get because they are often very creative in inventing strange names for not so strange things. An Ukrainian company is always very helpful in such cases because the staff seldom speaks other languages than Ukrainian, Russian or Romanian.
The best drink to the meals is the really tasty Ukrainian beer (also a remarkable development throughout the last five years). My favourites are Obolon, L'vivske, Chernihivske and Slavutych. All these beers can come in different types not differing too much from each other but all good. I heard that some leading Ukrainian breweries employed Czech brewmasters which was obvioulsly an excellent idea to greatly improve the quality of the beers.
