There is nothing really outstanding in looks about this little shopping village. This was one of my favourite areas and there are many bits and pieces in my house purchased from Holland Village. During the day it is frequented by housewives, local and expatriate alike, at Cold Storage grocery store and the wet market.
Along Lorong Mambong, at the back of Holland Village, there are shops selling cane ware and pottery; rattan and metal work baskets, porcelain elephants, bird cages and scores of other knick-knacks that capture the local flavour spill onto the pavements. You can hardly move between all the goodies stack up high (watch out for the odd 3' cockie though). They will also ship overseas for you if you find some larger items. The shops in the main building like Lim's Arts and Crafts which are a pleasure to browse in - but be warned, you may come away the proud possessor of delicate cut-work linen, multicoloured glassware, wind chimes, wooden trinkets or pewter (Oh how I wish they had a web site to order from). Great place for finding souvenirs.
Another interesting stop is the Este'H Studio for fine ikta textiles, tribal artifacts and Indonesian handmade gifts of exceptional quality. They also sell teakwood furniture for which they arrange shipping. If nothing fits you in the small Asians sizes, there is a shop with 'larger' items out there as well as dressmakers. There are also some really nice restaurants and bars out there. After living Texas now a short while I have to say the Mexican restaurant there is VERY bland:-).
