The Temple of Horus in Edfu
by Paul2001

The Temple of Horus in Edfu is one of the best preserved ancient temples in Egypt. Built during Pholemaic period, this temple is huge and must be visited if you are in Egypt long enough to get out of Luxor.
The temple has many important features.
The temple contains many chambers and halls, all adorned by magnificant reliefs on the walls and high majestic columns. It is one of the few temples that has its roof still in place.
Edfu is about halfway between Luxor and Aswan. I visited the temple as part of a taxi convoy from Aswan, 105km to the south. This set me back about 60 Egyptian pounds at the time. I had a stop at Kom Ombo temple included in that price. This is what most tourist do if they are not traveling up the Nile on a cruiseboat. I understand that the only hotel in town is a dump so do not plan on spending the night here. It might be possible to instead rent a taxi in either Luxor or Aswan and set out to the other destination, stopping at Esna, Edfu and Kom Ombo along the way. In hindsight I might have done this.
The temple is open from 7am to 5pm and it cost 20 Egyptian(about $5.00US) pounds to visit .
