Kai Kai: "Affordable & Tasty Thai food in the east village." Kai Kai Thai Bistro - CLOSED Tip by lulu_girl

Kai Kai is a local favorite in the East Village. It's on Avenue A, by Thompson Square Park, right in the heart of activity for Alphabet City. It's a teeny tiny restaurant, with a few tables and chairs, but be forewarned that it's very, very cramped and very hot in there during the summer months. But, with that stated, the service is fast, and the food is delicious.

This is great for both meat eaters and vegetarians. They serve a variety of Pad Thai dishes, plus other noodle creations, etc... The prices are very affordable and the portions are large. Tofu pad thai is about $4.50 to $5.00 (depends on whether or not you want peanut sauce). Chicken dishes are about a dollar more, if that.

This is a *great* take out restaurant, if you don't feel like dealing with a small, hot, cramped restaurant. I usually grab food here, and go somewhere else (like to a park, or to The Raven ~see other tip for The Raven) and chow down. They deliver locally, if you find yourself staying in that area, and the delivery minimum is ten dollars.

I really do recommend this place if you're visiting NYC and you're on a budget. You can seriously fill up on food for about five bucks, maybe six. You can't get much cheaper (and healthier) than that!

Oh, and the restaurant is BYOB as well.
