"Now easy to reach" Lithuania Transportation Tip by lotharlerch

Lithuania Transportation: 42 reviews and 40 photos

By car from Poland - the situation at the frontier has clearly improved - and from Latvia. Lithuania was almost the last country in Europe to recognize the Green Insurance Card (which was earlier recognized even by countries like Albania and Moldova(!!))

Bus is better than train from Latvia and maybe also from Poland. Ferries from Kiel and Mukran in Germany and also from Denmark and Sweden, all going to Klaipeda, the only one seaport.

International airport: Vilnius.

The road network is far better than I expected it, a good motorway is connecting Vilnius with Kaunas and the coast and most of the main North-South connection is an Autobahn, too. Busses are far more frequent than trains.

An interesting option is the speedboat from
Kaunas down the Nemunas river and over the lagoon to Nida on the Couronian Spit, but check whether it is still running becaus they used old Soviet boats for that.

Type: Ship/Boat
