"The Musts" Lithuania Favorite Tip by lotharlerch

Favorite thing: The musts are the wonderful natural landscape of the lake district of the Aukstaitija National Park (partly surrounding the nuclear power plant of Ignalina - of Chernobyl type), the outstanding but in its present shape man made landscape of the Couronian Spit, the two interesting and colourful towns of Vilnius and Kaunas. And not to forget Trakai castle, a very fine reconstruction in a wonderful natural setting with splendid lakes around it. And last but not least the extraordinary open air ethnographic museum near RumsiskÚs, one of the best if not the best one in Europe. There are not only old farmhouses etc. collected from all over the country but even the ancient forms of agriculture - with all the traditional animals (special horses and cows etc.) and the traditiional crops are presented here. I strongly recommend it but I also had an experience of an other sort there - see further below.

Fondest memory: My friends there and the time I had with them. And the nice feeling of 'being at home' even without speaking Lithuanian.
