"As Crocodile Dundee said...." New York City Local Custom Tip by sourbugger

"You can live on it...but it tastes like S***".

This was a rejoinder by Crocodile Dundee to his female lead when she buys a Hot dog from a stall on a New York street.

Earlier in the film she had questioned Dundee about eating bush tucker - and that was his same instant reply.

You must have seen the film - if you haven't then get hold of a copy of this classic "Fish out of water" romantic comedy.

The Hot-dog itself is often claimed to be a New York invention from around the turn of the 20th Century. It is often claimed that the first ones were sold outside a Giants game - and the seller called them 'Hot Dogs' because he couldn't spell 'Frankfurter' !

The use of the word probably had some currency before that date however, as can be seen from this song of the 1860's

Now sausage is good, baloney, of course.
