"Ghostly quiet - until the next ferry!!" Alcatraz Tip by dawn67

Alcatraz, San Francisco: 292 reviews and 488 photos

Alcatraz is an experience in itself.
Make sure you are on the first ferry over and then you feel like you have the place to yourself. It gets really busy later in the day.

Take the recorded tour with headset - it's great. Prison inmates and guards talk you around and you really feel like you're part of it.
When you look from the cell block over the bay you realise how tormenting it must have been to be that close, yet so far away.
