Knossos, Crete Island: 51 reviews and 95 photos

by steventilly

Knossos was the main palace of The Minoans, the early inhabitants of Crete. Their king was king Minos and in labyrinths beneath the palace, legend tells, lived the fearsome Minotaur. Half man, half bull he devoured sacrificial youths each year until he was eventually slain by the Greek hero Theseus. There is actually no evidence of this labyrinth at Knossos, but there are some other very noteworthy and spectacular sights here.
