There are many trips to the Reef from Cairns. I was on a one-day trip on an old sailing ship called Falla. It used to be a norwegian pearling ship.
It was a great trip, I even got the opportunity to steer the ship.
Eventhough I don't like water very much I did go diving and I am glad I did. It was SO beautiful down there. All the different colours were amazing. Also did some snorkling and took many photos.
There were starfish and sea cucumbers to touch, even a huge giant clam - kind of a velvety feeling.
A very good experience but remember lots of sun lotion - the sun is so fierce, reflecting of the sea too.
